Back in the day: RHCP’s tension-filled ‘Saturday Night Live’ performance

Some times your favorite bands don’t have their best set, or things are just off. The Youtube channel Rock & Roll Stories documented a very odd night on an elevated stage of national TV for the Red Hot Chili Peppers when they played ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 1992. As is standard on the comedy TV institution, the Chili Peppers performed several songs between sketches but after one song went well, the second showed a serious tension on stage between guitarist John Frusciante and singer Anthony Kiedis. Frusciante leave the band for the first later that year amid drug addiction issues, only to return after gaining sobriety to have another outstanding run with the band.
