Pokemon Go at The Bean!

Meet Up

Yesterday was a busy day in the city, not only did Chicago hold its annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, but it also held its first ever Pokemon Go meet up. You are probably wondering, where in the world did we hold this meet up and what do you do during one of these events that have taken over the world?

The Pokemon Go meet up was held yesterday at The Bean where there was a Facebook event page setup. At one point 12,000 people RSVP’d to the meet up to go around Chicago and catch as many Pokemon as possible. There is no official word on how many people actually showed up, but I think its safe to say not all 12,000 people showed up.

During one of these meet ups people go around the surrounding area in search of rare Pokemon that they can then catch and battle other Pokemon Goers with. Yesterday though at The Bean, the main purpose was to pin Pokemon against Pokemon in what they call a Pokemon Gym. Just think of it as a big boxing gym, except for Pokemon. The good news though is Chicago did something that no other meet up in the United States has been able to do before.

During the Chicago meet up at The Bean, there were so many people on the Pokemon Go servers at once, that they actually crashed it for the rest of the United States for a few minutes. During the meet up people were even dressing up as characters from the actually card game and TV show. Along with dressing up as characters, people were also gathering and sitting based on what team/house they are a part of in the game.

It’s safe to say that Pokemon Go has officially taken over the world and it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I would fully expect there to be more Pokemon Go meet ups in the Chicago area very soon. If you were at the Chicago Pokemon Go meet up on Sunday, let us know how it went!
