Netflix gets in the ring with ‘GLOW’

Goregous Ladies of Wrestling is remembered for it’s campy nature and over-the-top characters, not so much action-packed pro wrestling action fans have come to find in the genre. It had charm and was definitely a product of it’s time, but it stood as it featured exclusively women in throws of battle. It’s worth noting that the show was a successful wrestling TV show that was never produced by genre-king WWE. So it’s ripe for an adapted teleplay featuring credible talent on screen like ‘Community’ star Allison Brie and comedy titan Marc Maron with the faithful creative guidance of ‘Orange is the new Black’ creator Jenji Kohan serving as executive producer. It has a good dramedy tone and the 80’s aesthetic is really pure, based on what is in this trailer. The new series debuts June 23rd.

If you want to really love this story even more, seek out the documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestlingit’s all about the real ladies who were really gorgeous and wild in this 80’s syndicated TV show and what their lives were like outside of the ring. Here is that trailer and go check it out now on Netflix.
