Paramore possibly retiring ‘Misery Business’ from live shows

Paramore came to acclaim with the sneering song ‘Misery Business’ off their 2007 breakout album ‘Riot!” , but the band has stated this week they will no longer play the track live or at least not for a long time. The move was revealed on stage on Friday while performing at their own Art + Friends  show in Nashville during an introduction for the song by singer Hayley Williams.

AltPress reports that the song has come under some scrutiny for the lyric ““Once a whore, you’re nothing more/I’m sorry that’ll never change.”

In a fan shot video above from the show, Williams clarified on stage why the beloved track was being shelved before playing it for what could be the last time.  “Tonight we’re playing this song for the last time for a really long time,” Williams says from the stage. “This is a choice we made because we feel like we should. We feel like it’s time to move away from it for a little while.”

In 2015 Tumblr post, Williams stated that her mindset had evolved since she first penned the song, and no longer felt it held the same emotional value:

i read a couple comments today about how i can’t be feminist or whether or not i’m a “good” feminist. to speak specifically to one of those comments, i’ll say this: Misery Business is not a set of lyrics that I relate to as a 26 year old woman. i haven’t related to it in a very long time. those words were written when i was 17… admittedly, from a very narrow-minded perspective. it wasn’t really meant to be this big philosophical statement about anything. it was quite literally a page in my diary about a singular moment i experienced as a high schooler.
