The red-winged blackbirds, nature’s jerks, are back in Chicago

Block Club Chicago has reported how the red-winged blackbirds are back!

These birds are known for swooping down on people and attacking them during nesting season, which is why they’re also considered nature’s a-holes. Over a handful of Avondale, residents have been hit while running or walking past nests. We get they do this as a way to protect their nests but it’s just nuts.

The best way to protect yourself from being attacked is to just stay clear of the nests till the young take flight. They like marshes, fields, and bushes, so be careful around city parks and along the lake and river. (Especially Lincoln Park and Grant Park)

Be on the lookout from now through mid-July for these jerks.
