Chicago’s newest side hustle on Comedy Central, “South Side”

Today, July 24th premieres the new Chicago based sitcom “South Side”.

South Side” follows two friends who just graduated from community college and are ready to take over the world. But until they do, they’re stuck working at Rent-T-Own. Shot on location in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, the show offers an authentic look into what life on the South Side is all about.

The Chicago Suntimes says how it’s,

It is edgy and bold, outrageous and provocative, and very much of its time and place, yet also reminiscent of popular and traditionally structured workplace comedies such as “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Superstore.”

All 10 episodes were shot in Chicago in the summer of 2018, some places like Harolds Chicken.

The show even had several of DePaul’s students and alums involved in the filming while they were using Depauls Cinespace Studios.

Bashir Salahuddin, a South Shore native, created the show with his former “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” colleagues Diallo Riddle and Michael Blieden. Their goal is to change the world’s perception of black Chicago.

“The first thing you hear about the South Side is ‘Isn’t that place dangerous?’ The reality is that it is a place with economic challenges, that stuff is all real, but let’s show you the whole picture. Let’s show you the stuff that puts a smile on our face,”

News outlets are already saying this sitcom needs more than just 10 episodes. We’ve only seen trailers and clips off their Twitter page but this is a show we will DEFINITELY be watching.
