Local musician Rylan Wilder recovering after being hit by a stray bullet

Rylan Wilder is a 15 year old student at Lane Tech and singer/guitarist for the Chicago band Monarchy Over Monday, who played Riot Fest this year and you have heard on DEMO 312.  He was unfortunately hit by a stray bullet after a bank robbery in Des Plaines led to a high speed chase that ended in gunfire where Rylan was interning at UpBeat Music and Arts.  He has already undergone multiple surgeries to his arm and stomach and his family has come forward asking for help with his medical bills.

“We never thought we’d be writing this but like too many families these days, our 15-year-old son, Rylan Wilder, has been an innocent victim of gun violence. On Tuesday, November 19th,  Rylan was shot in the arm and abdomen after a bank robbery suspect led police into a nonprofit music school where he was working, on the north side of Chicago. It has been reported that Rylan was shot by police as they tried to apprehend the suspect.  While the injuries are tragically severe, unlike many other families, we are lucky, he survived and is now out of “critical condition.”

With laser focus, Rylan started following his passion for playing music at a very young age.  He is a driven and talented musician who writes music, sings and plays guitar, drums, bass, and piano. He is the lead guitarist and vocalist in his band, Monarchy Over Monday.  Rylan is already showing strong determination to overcome his injuries.

Rylan has undergone multiple specialized surgeries on his arm and stomach and there are many more on the horizon.  We are bracing ourselves for a long road to recovery. Our medical bills are mounting each day. Unfortunately, we are on an HMO insurance plan that will not cover most portions of the required care. We are asking anyone who is interested to please provide support to us through this GoFundMe effort in lieu of flowers, gifts, food, etc..

We appreciate how fortunate we are and are grateful for the support we have already received from family and friends. We are especially grateful to his amazing, specialized team of selfless doctors and nurses.  We know we are lucky. Whether you are able to contribute or not, we thank you for your continued support, thoughts, and/or prayers.”

Get well soon, Rylan.  <3 Lauren.
